Korea times

Yesterday I made the dreaded trek to Ujeong-Bu, the place where my local immigration office is located, although its over 2 hours away on the subway. It turned out to be alright, as the last part was not underground, and showed a really beautiful view of some of the mountains here. Seoul is surrounded by mountains, and Korea is something like 70 percent mountain land. In Ujeong-bu I finally picked u my Alien card, so I'm now officially an Alien! Now I can legally get a cell phone and Internet access in my room! soo bring on the electronics I say.

I met up with a bunch of confused army guys from America on the subway, who were trying to find the Seoul Hard Rock Cafe. "Do you know where the Hard Rock Cafe is?" they asked. I didn't know. Up north there are many American army guys and girl running around. They tell me where their base is located is less than ideal, and they can only go out on weekends and never stay overnight in Seoul, so they don't have a chance to see much. Still they seemed happy enough.

On the way back I got a newspaper because Woody Allen was on the front with his young Korean wife, looking slightly guilty. I noticed a monk's picture in the corner, and I couldn't believe, it was one of the monks I had been hanging out with last weekend at the retreat. A very soft spoken kind hearted guy, this Senim was seen by many dancing whimsically through the streets with his flag in last weeks parade.
Here is a link to the article.. I'm not sure what thy are talking about when the call him "Reverend," and I'm not sure if he is really the "head monk," but it was cool to see a familiar face printed in the paper.
