This is the image of Buddhas birthday because it is said that when the Buddha was born, he took some steps himself away from his mother and poitined at the sky with one hand, and at the Earth with the other and said something like "let it be known, in all the universe, I am the only thing that is holy." I think this is supposed to mean that the only holy thing is inside us.
